Dear family, friends and readers of our website,

 

Our backpacks are all we have with us on this trip and we keep an eye on them at all times.

 

We insist that we personally load and offload them on busses and taxis and don't give them to others to carry them into the hostels.

 

We lock valuables in safes wherever we can but theft lies in a small corner.

 

Ecuador and Peru were extreme in regards to theft of fellow travelers passports, airline tickets and credit cards. Fast moving fingers even took complete daypacks and backpacks !

 

At the Peruvian border we changed around USD 30.00 - the money was fake - a shame - but possibly it was a very clear warning for us to watch our stuff.

 

Honesty seems to have another meaning for some people but luckily enough we met many wonderful people as well !
